The Clan Davidson Society (USA)

The Clan Davidson Society (USA) was formed in October 1981 when Colonel Floyd Stayner of Atlanta, Georgia and his wife Elizabeth decided to act after many people pointed out a need for such an organization, since there was no Davidson organization in existence anywhere in the world. It was to be used as a vehicle to assist Davidson with a common heritage an background to associate themselves together in fun and friendship.

The Stayners together with a few other interested persons sponsored a tent at the Stone Mountain Games and this became the background for the Society's formation. The Clan Davidson Society (USA) remains today as a viable group with members from all over the United States. A constantly expanding list of Regional Directors serves the needs of members throughout the country.

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) has traditionally been held during the third week of October at the Stone Mountain Highland Games in Georgia. It was decided at the last AGM that the meeting would be periodically moved to different locations to make it easier for members from other regions of the country to attend. At this meeting a report is made on the state of the Society, business is transacted and officers are elected for the coming year. The fiscal year runs from January through December. Administrative business meetings of the Board of Directors are held as needed to discuss the Society's operation and to insure its smooth and continued growth. Annual membership dues includes the right to vote at the AGM, receipt of "The Sporran", the Clan newsletter which relays items of interest to all members (produced twice a year), plus a decorative certificate of membership suitable for display.

The Clan Davidson Society (USA) welcomes persons with the surname of Davidson or one of the Septs associated with the Davidson Clan or descendants of it t join the Society.

The Clan Davidson Society (USA) is non-political, non-profit, tax exempt and non-sectarian. Request for genealogical information are usually forwarded to the Clan Genealogist or the editor of the Sporran (Sennachie) for inclusion in the newsletter which allows for broad coverage and frequent response.

Continuous efforts are also made to remain in touch with members of our sister Clan Davidson organizations in the UK, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. Many interesting articles concerning events and other news comes from abroad. Travel opportunities to Scotland are also passed along when received.

Tents are staffed at well over 70 Scottish Highland Games and festivals throughout the year. Currently the Society regularly attends the Stone Mountain Highland Games and Savannah Scottish Games (GA); Grandfather Mountain Highland Games and Loch Norman Highland Games (NC); Orlando Highland Games (FL); Alexandria Highland Games and Richmond Highland Games (VA); Pleasanton Games (CA); Estes Park Highland Games (CO) and many others. The list is constantly being enlarged to cover more and more activities in various sections of the country where we have representation.
